Roots in the Country

Celie grew up on country land where the seasons told you everything you needed to know. Spring meant wildflowers along the fence line. Summer meant sunflowers taller than she was. Fall brought dahlias in every shade of gold and amber.
She wasn't taught to arrange flowers — she just always did. As a little girl, she'd fill mason jars with whatever was blooming and set them on the kitchen table. Her grandmother said she had "the eye" — a natural sense for what belongs together, for how color and shape and texture can tell a story without saying a word.
That instinct never left her. It just grew.
